First Look? No First Look? No Look First Look?
I know I’ve talked about first looks before … but it’s a subject I don’t get sick of really…
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I LOVE a “First Look” – also known as a “Reveal” – for so many reasons, however couples are often hesitant.
As a photographer I love it because it allows me to navigate the moment and control my surroundings. During the ceremony it is a lot more challenging to capture the grooms reaction to his bride. For one thing – sometimes the groom is so nervous in that moment that he doesn’t seem to react physically. Other times – there are those guests who jump out into the isle with their cameras blocking my view. Whatever the case may be – when a couple chooses to do a first look – you’re guaranteed to get the grooms reaction captured.
A First Look also allows the couple to calm most of their nerves before the ceremony and gives them some quiet time together before the wedding festivities take control. Couples often resist a first look because they want to see each others reaction at the isle. Let me assure you – you still get a reaction and it’s often BETTER at your first look. It certainly gets captured better at a first look.
Recently I’ve had a few couples opt for a “No Look First Look” – – – what’s that? A No Look First Look is when the bride and groom get to talk, touch hands, snuggle up – but not see each other prior to the ceremony. It allows for some cute and playful moments as the bride hides behind the groom. She can whisper into his ear, and tell him she loves him before they walk down the isle, they can hold hands, pray, whatever they feel in that moment. It spikes their anticipation and adds a little extra kick to the moment before the isle.
Check out a couple shots from this couple’s no look first look – and a few other cute images:
The most important thing to remember is to do whatever makes YOU feel comfortable. Don’t let your photographer talk you into a first look if you’re heart is set on seeing each other at the isle… At the end of the day, it’s OUR job to serve YOU. Not the other way around…
